| We are seeking a CWWA counsellor to provide individual and group education, emotional support and parenting support to parents who have been impacted by abuse and have children between the ages of 3 and 18. The counsellor will also promote awareness and provide education about the impact of violence on children to our community including providing school based prevention programs. The right candidate will be a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Being a team member with a collaborative and cooperative work style and solution-focused approach has allowed you to build relationships with staff, clients, community agencies and resources.
Responsibilities: Skills and attributes:• Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of violence and it’s effect on the family;• Demonstrated knowledge of assessment techniques and skills using relevant and appropriate counselling and experiential approaches;• Demonstrated knowledge of counselling group processes and facilitation techniques • Demonstrated experience providing educational workshops and presentations;• An accurate knowledge of appropriate legislation and policies of the systems supporting children who witness/experience abuse including the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s policies;• Well-honed interpersonal behaviour and written and verbal communication skills necessary to deal effectively and compassionately with children and their caregivers;• Ability to be non-judgmental, open, and accepting;• Cultural competency with an ability to be culturally sensitive, respectful, confidential and caring when dealing with diverse values, beliefs and lifestyles;• Ability to work independently within a team culture, including good organization, time and self-management skills and computer proficiency;• Knowledge of community resources.
Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social service field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience plus two (2) years recent related experience working in community-based services providing group and individual services to parents; and strong facilitation skills with experience in counselling and community settings.Prerequisites to Employment: • A Valid Driver’s License, Reliable Vehicle, Valid First-Aid Certificate, Relevant Criminal Record Check • A flexible work schedule may be required This position requires Union Membership This position is open to female and male applicants Please send an email letter of interest and resume indicating how you meet the qualifications stated above.
