Mission and Objective:
To create a healing environment utilizing a holistic approach that promotes a cultural lifestyle free from addictions and restores a sense of pride in the Carrier Sekani culture.
The addictions recovery program (ARP) consists of two different but equally important parts.
The first is the Ormond Lake Cultural Healing camp where the ARP counsellors, Cathy Hobson,Marilyn Janzen, night staff, Dean Sam and Leila Nooski strive “to create a healing environment utilizing a holistic approach that promotes a cultural lifestyle free from addictions and restores a sense of pride in the Carrier Sekani culture”. The camp runs six months out of the year from May to October. Our camps are seven days in length where participants decide our agenda for the week. A very basic agenda at camp consists of smudging, prayer, circle, workshop, and an evening activity which may include preparing traditional foods, collecting traditional medicines, hunting, or going for a walk. Through out the days at camp Margaret Nooski and Charlene Ketlo will be preparing three wonderful meals a day for everyone at camp. Plus Ricky Nooski will be making sure the camp is maintained. When camp is closed Edward Green, Wilfred Sutherland, and Eric Thundstrom ensure that camp is safe and secure.
The second part of the ARP program is outreach. From November to April the ARP counselors facilitate a variety of workshops in each of the member communities upon request. The workshops presented are at the request of individual communities. We are also available for crisis intervention throughout the year. ARP counsellors also help to facilitate a sexual abuse intensive in January with Jane Middleton-Moz. This intensive is a five day program that consists of small and large group work focusing on sexual abuse, and what we need to heal.

The Early Recovery/Stabilization Program at Gya’ Wa’ Tlaab Healing Centre is based upon a Holistic Model approach and incorporates the Harm Reduction Principles into all of its programming. Following are the details: • The holistic model is consistent with the public health approach.
• It recognizes the complex set of factors that impact addictive behaviour.
• It also recognizes the complex relationship between addictive behaviour and harmful consequences for both the individual and community.
• It accepts and works with individual differences in client characteristics in both preventing and responding to harms. These include risks associated with gender, age, cultural identity and concurrent mental health issues.
• This approach incorporates the strengths of the various models of the past and present, and uses these various insights to effect change with clients.
• The goal is to reduce the impact of problem consequences. The Gya’ Wa’ Tlaab Healing Centre is honored to offer this holistic healing model approach to all First Nations, Inuit and other people of Canada who choose to attend our program that alternates between eight (8) and seven (7) week programs. This program can be defined as an assessment, orientation, and readiness phase to treatment for clients. Kakawis Family Development Centre Society is dedicated to a holistic approach to family recovery, healing and growth. We provide an environment for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing. Recovery from alcohol and drug abuse and other addictive behaviours is a life long process and a permanent responsibility of each participant.
Kakawis Family Development Centre is a First Nations Family Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre. Our program has changed over the years and at present; we have six family sessions per year. Each session is 42 days. We have 3 components to our treatment program, adult, children and youth (K – 12), and toddlers up to five years of age.
The Program
We have four adult counsellors who offer education, individual, couple and family counselling. The education consists of such topics as alcohol and drugs and their effects, other addictions, grief and loss, communication skills, anger management, co dependency, residential school issues and traumas, spirituality, recreation and family fun time, AA meetings, community dinners, cultural and traditional teachings, healing ceremonies and sweat lodges.
The children and youth have a full time school teacher and teacher’s aide. These two positions are funded through School District # 70. The children and youth are requested to bring their math and language arts when they attend. The children and youth also learn about the effects of alcohol and drugs, grief and loss, anger and bullying. We are connected to the Success Maker program which is widely used in the school system. Children and youth spend supervised time at the gym and on the beach and they also participate in family fun time. We have a Child and Youth Therapist who works two days a week and will counsel children with parent approval.
Our toddler program is for children from babies up to five years of age. They learn the basics, such as colors, story telling, trust building, how to play and share.
Each family stays in individual family cabins. Each unit has a living space, kitchen and bedroom(s). The kitchen comes equipped with pots and pans, dishes and utensils etc.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
‘Namgis Treatment Program provides a six week program which provides for the individual an awareness of themselves. Also bringing to their attention the ability to make decisions.

Nenqayni Wellness Centre operates 2 programs:
Family Alcohol & Drug Program (6 week program)
This is a 6-week family program that includes all members of the family from infants on up. There are approximately 8 intakes per year with room for 4 families per group.
Families all stay in the large building with the red roof that is designed after a pit house. Each family has their own unit that includes sleeping area, kitchen area and washroom with a tub.
The Family Program has their own school that is run by 1 teacher and 1 teacher's assistant from the local school district. School work needs to be brought with children to cover the 6-week stay.
During the day adults attend group sessions which cover a variety of topics. The topics may be geared specifically to the particular group but there are sessions that include: communication, self-esteem, gambling, nutrition, anger management and more.
Families participate in daily sage and prayer at 8:00am. Drumming and singing is often a part of this. Sweats are run on Friday afternoons and sometimes on Sundays also. A variety of cultural activities are enjoyed such as; drum making, sage picking, beading, making dream catchers, pipe ceremonies. Recreation activities are encouraged.
Youth & Family Inhalant Program (6 month program)
The Youth Program has 2 regular intakes occurring in January and July. The program is 6 months in length and includes school, educational sessions, group sessions, individual counselling, a focus on physical fitness, recreational activities, cultural activities and handcrafts.

21 Kilometers north of Williams Lake on Highway 97. Our location is on the Deep Creek Reserve, part of X'atsull First Nation (Secwepemc). This is often commented on as a peaceful location as we are surrounded by fir, alder and pine trees with the buildings themselves nestled near the base of an old ski hill. Treatment Approach:
The NWHC offers affective-based, culturally appropriate programming for Aboriginal People struggling with multi-addictions. Emphasis is on empowering the participants to process past abuse issues that serve as catalysts for substance abuse. This is accomplished primarily within the protection of the Sacred Circle.

Round Lake Treatment Centre is an accredited 36-bed alcohol and drug abuse treatment facility located on the Okanagan Indian Reserve near Vernon in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. Programs in addictions treatment are offered to clients from throughout the province, with a focus on holistic healing and First Nations’ culture. It is situated in a private, park-like setting on the edge of scenic Round Lake. |  | "Building Confidence, Leadership, and Independence among Aboriginal Young Women" The Founder and a group of concerned mainstream and Aboriginal professional community members formed the Spirit Bear Center Society for the specific purpose of breaking the cycle among Aboriginal Young Women from dependency on drugs and alcohol and the effect of physical and sexual abuse an alternative to the streets and suicide. These individuals lend their expertise to Spirit Bear Center Society to operate a 10 bed residential treatment and wellness center for Aboriginal females between 13 and 19 years.
Youth have the right to live safe, healthy, and positive lives away from negative influences.
The proposed culturally sensitive rehabilitation center is to be a place where young women can come and learn to become responsible for their own recovery.
Young woman will be given the proper level and quality of treatment.
Spirit Bear Center is to provide for the social, educational, spiritual healing, recreational, and artistic needs of the Native woman who come to the center.
Goal of the center is to walk alongside young women so they will be able to make positive changes in their lives.
Programs • Spirit Bear Center operates a 10 bed rehabilitation shelter for female youth, with treatment, education and training to improve the skills of residents and help them to become positive role models in their communities.

We provide programs that address the issues of addictions and substance abuse, and that support the survivors of trauma and residential schools. Our mission is to strengthen the ability of First Nations people to live healthy, happy lives and to have pride in their native identity. Tsow-Tun Le Lum is a registered non-profit society operating a fully accredited treatment centre in Lantzville, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Our facility is located on five acres of land over looking Nanoose Bay, leased from the Nanoose First Nation.

Split Wolf With Human Hands
Clients in treatment have realised that they have negative and positive personality traits. Often times we allow animal instincts to dominate our lives. We fail to control our appetites.
Treatment helps us turn away from all that is negative and seek out all that is good in our humanity. The "Split Wolf" may be interpreted as the emergence of the human (the good, the positive side of the personality. As well, the hands may be seen along a vertical axis, one pushing away from all negativity, the other drawing toward everything positive.)
The use of an earth-tone red should be a rather obvious symbol; the choice of the wolf design may not be quite so obvious. On the West Coast, wolves represent authority, law and order, and control. Clients certainly will be seeking self-control. Also, wolves are known for their intelligent co-operation during their hunts. Clients, too, will want to help each other as they search for their stronger self and healthier lives.
