Trust in the power of your body’s creative wisdom to unify body, mind and spirit with the Movement Healing Arts!

Tannis Hugill has a Master’s degree in Somatic Psychology, is a registered B.C. Clinical Counsellor, registered Dance and Drama therapist and Spiritual Director. She brings over twenty years’ experience of healing through the arts and to her work with individuals, groups, adolescents and adults, especially those with addictions, trauma, eating and body image problems. She is experienced in hospital and private practice settings, has coordinated a hospital eating disorders program, and taught on the university level.

Tannis’ passion is helping others experience vitality, creativity and wisdom of their bodies as a source of healing transformation.

Beliefs:

Our bodies are the signatures of who we are. They express our thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and the unconscious through movement, gesture, voice and facial expressions. It is through them that we relate to others and ourselves. Though addictive behaviors were developed to cope with emotional, mental, physical and spiritual pain, they disconnect us from our bodies and ourselves.

By learning listen to our bodies’ we can discover and truly satisfy our needs for safety, love and compassionate self-acceptance.

"We Care"
Mission Statement:
Burnaby Counselling Group is a charitable non-profit society serving God both within the church and the larger community by providing spiritually sensitive and psychologically skillful counseling, training and teaching, in order to strengthen relationships and foster emotional, mental and spiritual maturity. We have dedicated, qualified therapists with more than a hundred years of combined experience. We offer professional and pastoral counseling for individuals, couples, families and groups from all walks of life.
“If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.”

Are you struggling with addictive behaviours
or are you close to someone who is?

Individual counselling for any addiction gives you a chance to resolve your problems in a safe place. Addictive behaviours actually cover up unresolved feelings such as sadness, anger, resentment, and feelings of low self-worth. As we work together in therapy, we will uncover the deeper reasons for your unhealthy choices. You will then be able to eliminate your need to engage in destructive addictive behaviours.

Counselling will also help you become aware of the solutions that will work best for who you uniquely are. Our goal in therapy is to overcome problematic addictive patterns and help you make more positive life choices.

I provide therapy and counselling services for the Greater Vancouver area including Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver and West Vancouver. I also provide phone therapy for clients who are unable to attend sessions in person.

"I also provide Telephone Counselling worldwide."

Addiction Counselling Services

Crossroads offers counselling and psychotherapy on an outpatient basis. Clients receive counselling around their addiction and underlying issues such as grief, abuse, trauma, and mental health. Family members looking for their own counselling around the impact of addiction and their own ability to draw boundaries have found benefit in this service as well.

Why Outpatient Addiction Counselling

• For some people, the option of going to residential treatment does not fit into their life.
• For others, outpatient addiction counselling will be enough for them to explore their addiction while continuing to function in their lives.
• Those coming to our 28-day residential program may wish to supplement their group treatment with individual counselling.
• Often times clients want to continue with one-on-one counselling after they leave residential treatment (whether here or somewhere else) as part of their aftercare.

Addiction Counselling Services

• Individual Counselling – one-on-one psychotherapy for adults struggling with addiction or in recovery.
• Family Counselling – helping couples and families heal from the impact of addiction
• Family Consultations – helping families determine how to help/manage a loved one with an addiction. (Usually a one time meeting with possible follow ups).
• Family Meetings – our version of an intervention where the addicted loved one is invited to the meeting.

Pre and Post Treatment Services

Recent research has overwhelming shown the importance of pre and post care treatment in the ongoing success of addiction recovery. EDGEWOOD is delighted to now offer on-going support pre and post treatment in the new EDGEWOOD Vancouver office located at 7th and Granville.

More than just a clinical office, EDGEWOOD Vancouver represents what we believe will be the next major innovation for EDGEWOOD’s modality of treating addiction. The combination of long term aftercare with built-in monitoring and consequences (therapeutic, not punitive), regular meetings to ensure adherence and 12 Step requirements have excellent sobriety results.

Pre-Care Program - is designed to assist both the family and patient in recognizing the disease of addiction and its attendant behaviors and to support them in their decision to seek treatment.

AfterCare Services - Maintaining a long-term, healthy recovery is an on-going process that requires support both within the family and from the community at large.

On-Going Services - As life in recovery progresses often secondary recovery issues surface. Recognizing this, Edgewood offers a continuum of personal services for as long as it takes.

Willow House Wellness Ltd.
Trained and experienced in working with a broad spectrum of issues, Michele specializes in working with adults who are suffering from addictions, trauma, depression and anxiety. Michele’s clients come from a wide variety of cultures from within the home and the workplace. Michele is particularly proud of her years of success working with First Nations people.

Her counselling design, which transcends the usual approaches in therapy, is to help each client access solutions through a proven 2-step formula. The benefits of her methods are well documented in the scientific research.

1) The mind-body concept, the connection between emotional duress and physical symptoms, is a focal point of this approach. This step utilizes various energy psychologies, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Self Regulation theory and Thought Field Therapy/Emotional Freedom Techniques.

2) Utilizing a cognitive behavioural model, which promotes rational thinking, Michele teaches a reality-based belief system that can transform your life and elevate feelings of self-sufficiency for your future.
Her certification in this approach is rare which gives each client a distinct advantage.

Located in a comfortable character house in New Westminster, BC, Michele provides services in Greater Vancouver, including Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Richmond, and Surrey. ADDICTION SERVICES

Some of the most challenging times in recovery occur when individuals leave treatment. Research shows that the most dangerous time for relapse is in the first 3-6 months of recovery. The difficulties one may experience can lead to intense cravings for that person’s drug of choice. However, with continued involvement in recovery, one can substantially increase their chances for a healthy, meaningful, substance-free life.

The Orchard’s new Addiction Services in West Vancouver was developed with these concerns in mind to offer the best opportunities for successful recovery.

Our professional staff provides individual counselling as well as meeting the special needs of couples and families.  We offer alcohol and drug monitoring, to assist each person in staying on track and being accountable.  We also offer ongoing recovery groups such as Relapse Prevention and Anger Management for anyone wanting to learn a new way of living.

Family Aftercare Program
Our 12-week aftercare program for families and loved ones impacted by addiction, runs throughout the year. Participants meet each Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30pm where some topics covered include ‘Healing Anger’, ‘Building Healthy Relationships’ and ‘Setting and Enforcing Boundaries’.  Next session begins soon. Please contact the Orchard during regular business hours for more information at (604) 947-0420.

  • Provide treatment and support services to male survivors of sexual abuse and support for significant relatives and others of the survivors.
Healing the broken-hearted
At Bountyfull, we commit ourselves to a journey with people who have come to realize they are powerless and are ready and willing to seek help.  At the core of this approach are the "Bountyfull Principles for Living" which focus on feelings and unconditional self-acceptance.

In an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding, the counsellor walks with the individual through their life story, where the hidden roots of pain and brokenness are unearthed. Individuals often begin to recognize various forms of dependancy to which they have given over their power, in an attempt to 'feel better'. The dependency may be on drugs, gambling, food, alcohol, rage, sex, relationships, counsellors .... the list goes on.

Our mission is to identify a broad spectrum of human needs on the Semiahmoo Peninsula and beyond and respond to them in a creative, caring and fiscally responsible way. This is achieved by providing information, services, advocacy and working with other individuals, groups and organizations. Semiahmoo House Society (Local:Surrey, BC)
This program aims to assist individuals involved in the sex trade to make desired lifestyle changes. Some of the past participants of this program have gone on to start their own business, returned to full-time studies, received their children back from care and most commonly participants have found employment.
Our Purpose
At Potter’s Place our mission is to visually, tangibly and measurably transform the downtown eastside (East Hastings Street) through the power of God. That is, to see the street people come out of their present situation of hopelessness and loss of self-worth, as evidence by their poverty, continual welfare dependency, involvement in substance abuse and addiction, prostitution and high suicidal tendencies, and have their lives restored to the gory of God.
The PACE model seems to be a good one for direct services to this highly specialized and very vulnerable target group. PACE is dedicated to the reduction of harm and abolition of conditions that lead to prostitution. We provide outreach, counselling, housing (for individuals under 24yrs of age), prevention presentations, and an IDU drop-in center for sex workers from the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver who have started their own cooperative business.
OUR MISSION:
The mission of Richmond Addiction Services is to “improve the lives of those affected by addiction”. We respect the integrity of each human being and believe that each person has the ability to change and accept personal responsibility for his/her physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and social health. We approach addiction through a harm reduction model that recognizes and incorporates abstinence.
The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

PROFESSIONALS WHO CARE

Trudy Annand is AXIS’ Senior Intervention Specialist.  Trudy, a Registered Professional Counsellor and a Master practitioner in Counselling Psychology, has worked in the counseling profession for a number of years.  She is also a Certified Interventionist and a member of the Association of Intervention Specialists.  Trudy has planned and participated in numerous interventions with alcoholics and drug addicts.

HOW IT WORKS
Intervention is a turning-point on the ugly and destruction road of addiction - one where a spouse, sibling, employer or friend cares enough to act and find help to point the substance abuser to reality’s rock bottom and the only option is immediate treatment. AXIS Intervention Service Ltd. provides discreet professional assistance by empowering those closest to the substance abuser and educating them about addiction. We treat everyone with respect and understand the importance of confidentiality.

AXIS Intervention Service Ltd. provides a planned and organized presentation of reality to the substance abuser with the goal of getting them to accept immediate admission to an appropriate treatment facility or program.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
First, you can expect professionalism, a high degree of compassion, understanding and total discretion.  We treat everyone involved with the utmost of respect while understanding confidentiality is paramount.
Traveling throughout Canada, our highly trained and professional Intervention Specialists use time – tested principles and practices to plan a custom strategy aimed at presenting the intervention in a professional, objective, caring, and non-judgmental manner. We form the Intervention team, prepare for and facilitate the Intervention and transport the substance abuser to treatment. We measure success each step of the way. The main goal is to get the substance abuser to accept immediate treatment.

"When Love, Care & Concern really counts!"

Scott & Jenny Graham have been facilitating interventions since 1988 across the United States, and Canada. They have helped thousands of families intervene with an over ninety percent success rate whereby the intervened upon person walks through the doors of treatment on the day of intervention. The less than ten percent that don't go into treatment on the day of intervention typically agree to go within 72 hours. This is because the families through a Carefrontation have redefined their boundaries.

A “Carefrontation” is our intervention method. Different from the confrontations most people are familiar with, a “Carefrontation” is love, care, and concern expressed in a compelling, straightforward, and respectful manner. The intervention is as much for you as it is for your loved one. It can feel like your loved one is barreling down a freeway with you held hostage in the back seat. A  Carefrontation creates an off ramp that draws them to the curb.
  • The danger is interrupted
  • The choice point for change is presented
  • The hostages are freed

Scott and Jenny are seasoned and trusted intervention specialists with an unparalleled reputation in the chemical dependency treatment field. Their nationally recognized “Carefrontation” method of intervention helps not only the addict or alcoholic get into treatment, but also each participant to gain insight into their role as it relates to dysfunctional behaviors for everyone involved.

To know you have done everything in your power
to help your loved one will change your life.

Counselling – Coaching – Consulting – Interventions

What is an Intervention?
Led by Cory Wint, BA, ICADC, an Intervention is a discreet and professionally planned process designed to
illustrate the reality of addiction to the problematic user. It includes the
provision of a solution designed to empower the problematic user to accept
an immediate way out.

Our highly trained and professional Intervention Specialists use time tested
principles and practices to plan a custom strategy aimed at presenting the Intervention in a professional, objective, caring, and non-judgmental manner.

It is important to note that we work in collaboration with several local men's
and women's Treatment Centres and we will facilitate admission into such
programs as necessary.

How does it work?
Usually, there is a 3 Step process involved in the Intervention process:

Step 1: Assessment of situation. All parties present except potential client.
Step 2: All parties present except potential client. Set time and place for intervention.
Step 3: Intervention to take place. All parties present including potential client.

Family / Friend Support:
The Intervention Specialist also helps the members in the alcoholic and/or drug
addict’s circle of caring come to some decisions on their own about their future
with that person.

“Set Yourself Free!”
Intervention Services

There are times when a family member, a friend, or an employer has exhausted all efforts to refer someone they are concerned about to enter treatment for a substance disorder. In these circumstances, an Intervention Program may be the route to pursue. Interventions are intense measures intended to place the full scope of someone’s addiction in front of them with an accompanying request that they choose treatment or be prepared to live with the consequences of continued addiction patterns. Not everyone is suited for an Intervention Program; at Top of The World Treatment Centres, we will conduct a preliminary interview to determine an individual’s suitability for the process. Should it be deemed appropriate our Intervention Program is outlined below.

• Phase One: Preliminary Interview
• Phase Two: Psycho-education: Substance Disorders
• Phase Three: Supports for Family/Friends and Impact Statements
• Phase Four: Preliminary Intervention
• Phase Five: Intervention
• Phase Six: Post Intervention follow-up

Note* If at any time while working through the 6 phases of intervention it is determined by the interventionist that this is no longer a viable course of action the intervention will be halted and a recommendation will be made for any further actions that may need to take place.
