FAMILY SERVICES OF GREATER VANCOUVER
This is a part-time, 28 hours per week position, reporting to the Manager, Addiction Services.
Job Purpose: Provide psychotherapeutic intensive group treatment services to individuals interested in changing their involvement in addictive behavior/substance use that is negatively impacting their lives.
Key Responsibility Area:
Therapeutic Intervention
1.Co-facilitate an experiential psychotherapeutic group assisting clients to identify and practice effective life skills in place of fusing substances.
2.Conduct psycho-social screening and assessments to provide program information, prepare clients for service and determine their readiness for group.
3.Collaborate with clients to prepare individualized treatment goals and plans.
4.Function as part of a clinical team, presenting cases for individual and peer supervision.
5.Deliver program services in accordance with program’s harm reduction model and ethical standards and develop new initiatives in collaboration with treatment team.
6.Facilitate and provide referral to more appropriate services and/or one-to-one counseling as appropriate when needed.
7. Supervise graduate students during their practical with the program, providing clinical input and assuring program standards, procedures and confidentiality requirements are complied with.
Key Responsibility Area:
Case Management/Record-Keeping
1.Develop appropriate treatment plans and ensure periodic case reviews are completed to refine approaches as needed.
2.Maintain client files including client contact, case notes and all required forms and documentation to assure agency and accreditation requirements are met.
3.Complete all required data collection including clinical statistics in a timely manner.
4.Comply with the agency program policies and procedures
5.Participate actively in program evaluation by soliciting feedback from clients and referral agents, responding to best practice information and contributing to the development of program evaluation tools as necessary.
6.Contribute to the annual program review with program-specific data and achievements.
Key Responsibility Area:
Community Liaison/Advocacy
1.Develop collaborative relationships with referral contacts and coordinate service for current and perspective clients.
2.Provide advocacy and support for clients to facilitate their ability to participate fully in the program, and their recovery.
3.Attend agency /program business, team and clinical meetings as needed.
4.Maintain and develop program visibility as directed by the Program Manager.
5.Prepare promotional materials and maintain mailing and fax lists.
6.Regularly distribute program information, responding to community enquiries and attending community meetings and forums as directed.

Professional Development
1.Actively participate in on-going training in topics related to the field of addictions, mental health and trauma.
2.Regularly review literature and publications relevant to psychotherapeutic group treatment and underlying issues related to substance abuse.
3.Provide presentations/handouts and training to program/agency staff members related to new information acquired at training and workshops attended.
Qualifications/Job Requirements:
Education and Training: MSW or MA/M.Ed (Counselling Psychology)
Experience: Three years supervised clinical experience preferably in the area of addictive behavior and related treatment approaches.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of therapeutic group dynamics and specialized treatment approaches directly related to addictions theory and causation.
Awareness of and sensitivity to issues related to service provision to diverse populations.
Thorough knowledge of community resources and related programs.
Knowledge of withdrawal symptoms, cycles, impact and symptom management issues related to addictive substances/behaviors.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of personal/social/environmental triggers related to relapse risk and prevention.
Abilities:
Ability to function independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Capacity to demonstrate exceptional communication and relationship skills.
Excellent intake, assessment and treatment planning skills.
Ability to work flexible hours when needed to deal with crisis situations arising periodically with group clients.
Ability to accept peer/supervisor clinical/professional input and to modify treatment/conduct as needed.
Ability to self-monitor stress levels and personal boundaries related to clients and to manage appropriately seeking additional assistance/support and/or guidance when indicated.
Skills:
Demonstrated capacity to provide crisis intervention/mediation in group setting.
Demonstrated skill in establishing safe contained environment for clients.
Computer skills adequate to complete all necessary program and agency clinical and reporting forms accurately.
Excellent intake and group readiness assessment skills.
